DAYTIME EMMY NOMINEE
Outstanding Daytime Promotional Announcement – Topical

Partnering with the social impact team at Viacom Networks, I helped conceive an Emmy-nominated promotional PSA for web and broadcast to support the television premiere of the Sundance documentary “Quiet Heroes” on Logo.  Chronicling the story of the only doctor in Utah who treated HIV/AIDS patients during the crisis, our premise was to celebrate the unsung, everyday heroes of people living with HIV today.  We invited five HIV positive people to speak about life after their diagnosis and to thank a hero in their life who helped them through a difficult time.  Unbeknownst to them, hiding backstage was their hero who could hear every word.

A 75 second cutdown was broadcast on MTV, VH1, Logo and several other Viacom channels 25 times.  The online version premiered on MTV’s Facebook and received praise from a number of outlets including Billboard, Out Magazine, NewNowNext, and Hornet who said, “Normally, PSAs are, at best, hilarious and, at worst, overwrought. But a new MTV PSA, “Thank Your Hero,” is surprisingly moving.”

The broadcast version of “Thank Your Hero” was nominated (and then disqualified on a technicality) for a Daytime Emmy Award in 2019.
