To celebrate the 25th anniversary of Fred’s Team, the first charity partner of the New York City Marathon, Memorial Sloan Kettering brought me on to create their first-ever docu-style profile of a runner. Aubrey Barr, a pediatric cancer survivor, has run with Fred’s Team every year since its founding in 1995 as the team has grown from a few dozen to 700+ runners annually.
Capturing both the magic of race day in NYC and Aubrey’s inspiring story involved multiple crews and close coordination with marathon organizers to gain up-close access to the starting line and finish area. While the 2020 New York City Marathon was ultimately canceled, the video premiered during Fred’s Team virtual 25th Anniversary Celebration, helping to continue driving donations to cancer research at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.
